I live in a country where cars go on the right side of the road: the right side. As far as I know, most countries in the world use this side. It makes sense: 90% of people are right-handed and during driving the gear-chaning is the most complex operation. People must use their proper hand to shift accordingly.
I can't see any reason why I should use my wrong hand to use the gear-change. In British countries people drive on the wrong side (and they also use funny and non-changeable metrics, but that's another post's subject).
Argue with me if you can :)
